Due to predicted high temperatures and extreme humidity on Friday June 21- Sunday June 23, causing heat indices to go above 100 degrees, Nelson County will be opening a cooling center. The cooling center will be at the Nelson Center, located at 8445 Thomas Nelson Highway. The center will be open from noon until 8 PM on these days and local weather forecasts will continue to be monitored; with any additional days to be announced.
Those wishing to utilize the center are asked to bring their own beverages and snacks. Please be advised that the center is open to service animals only, pets will not be permitted.
Residents may also consider the library as an alternate cooling location during their normal business hours.
